The 12 in 12 Challenge
Hey everyone, just posted this to bsky, but wanted to put a more e-reader friendly version here on my blog.
1 - Pick Your Track
Short Fiction (Micro, Flash, Short Story, Novelette)
At minimum one unpolished draft of short fiction per month.
Word count between 100-15,000 words.
Long Fiction (Novella, Novelette)
At minimum produce 1-3 unpolished chapters per month. (You define the total number.)
15,001-100,000 words over 12 months.
2 - Pick Your Mode
Chill Mode (Unscored; Forgiving)
Just need to do the thing.
Can structure in it either a “one per month” or “12 per year”, based on your own needs.
Example: You need a month off around the holidays, but can do three stories in two months at another point in the year.
Sicko Mode (Scored; Unforgiving)
Different tasks include “points” you can give to yourself.
Deduction in points for missing a month; surpassing goal accrues extra points.
3 - Write Your Pieces
You can start this challenge whenever fits your schedule. There is no prescribed schedule for everyone.
The challenge is designed to be flexible: not everyone’s brains work the same way, and not everyone’s goals are identical. Do what works for you!
How hard or easy you go on yourself is up to you; you can change your track or mode if the current track no longer fits your goals.

Sicko Mode Point System
1 pt - Wrote on a day (one point per day)
1.5 pt - Edited a prior month’s draft (if draft is more than one chapter per month, you get 1.5pt for each prior month edited chapter)
1.5 pt - Wrote on a day beyond your stated goal (additional chapter or story; can only accrue one per day)
2 pt - Finished that month’s draft (if draft is more than one chapter per month, you get 2pt for each finished chapter)
3 pt - Edited that month’s draft (if draft is more than one chapter per month, you get 3pt for each edited chapter)
3 pt - finished another draft/chapter that month (one per draft/chapter above goal)
5 pt - Edited additional draft/chapter that month (one per draft/chapter above goal)
-20 pt - Did not complete draft goal that month
